Frequently Asked Questions

You know you need to clean your data but have questions about how it works. Check out our answers to the most frequently asked Bumblebee questions.

Is my database too small to clean? Is it too large?

Bumblebee can handle and clean data sets of all shapes and sizes! We have processed everything from a few thousand records, up to 3 million, and everything in between.

Can I run Bumblebee on some of my data instead of all records to save money?

We priced Bumblebee the way we did so you could avoid this internal debate! Partially cleaning your database will likely take the same amount of time and effort, but you’ll still be left with dirty data. Plus, most clients make back the cost of Bumblebee in just a few months in direct mail savings alone. Yep, that’s right, Bumblebee pays for itself!

Is running Bumblebee a one-time thing?

Your database is constantly changing with new updates every single day. From  event registrations to new member profiles, the list goes on and on. For this reason, most Bumblebee users maintain their access throughout the year. However, we do have a single-use option to support special projects.

I have both Organization and Person records, will Bumblebee work on both?

You better bee-lieve it! It will also discover duplicate records within both types of data.

I have this database, CRM, or AMS. Will Bumblebee still work on my data?

Yes! Bumblebee is platform-agnostic, our fancy way of saying that we can process your data regardless of where it’s stored. As long as you can export your data and import updates, you are good to go. If you still have concerns, let us know!

What type of validation is included?

Bumblebee validates US postal addresses, emails, and phone numbers.

What is ``record queening`` exactly?

Bumblebee synthetically generates a best record for every duplicate group called the Queen Record. The first step in generating the Queen Record is to select the Priority Record of a duplicate group based on the following factors applied in order: member status, most recent transaction, last updated date, completeness of the record. The Priority Record is the cleaned and corrected, but otherwise unmodified record, from the original dataset which is used to build the Queen Record.

When is the best time to clean my data?

There’s no time like the present! However, we advise you to start your data clean-up project when it makes sense for you and your team. The first time your data is cleaned and de-duplicated tends to be the most time intensive. We will always work with your timeline to ensure the success of your project.

You say Bumblebee will help me save money, but how?

While dirty data doesn’t have its own expense line item, it’s a combination of traceable costs plus all of the other hypothetical financial repercussions. If Sally receives three postcards from your organization wishing her a “Happy Membership Anniversary,” or worse, three duplicate renewal invoices that costs you 3x too much- a traceable expense. However, it’s arguably negligible in comparison to the long-term cost of Sally’s experience and how it will impact her spending decisions in the future.

Dirty data negatively impacts your reputation, diminishes your members’ satisfaction, distorts high-level analysis, and affects every single aspect of your organization from the top, down. On the bright side, the opposite is also true! Investing in data hygiene improves the effectiveness of all of your business processes and always outweighs the cost.
